Doggone it! You dropped your phone when it was out of its case. Now you’ve cracked the screen and it’s just unbearable! You could go to a quick phone or screen repair shop, but in some cases, repairing the screen could cost you more than what you paid for the phone to begin with!
Or let’s say it’s time to change the oil in your car. You could pay a mechanic upwards of $40 to change the oil and then suggest other repairs to your car. Or, you could spend less than half of that by changing the oil yourself.
That’s when it’s time to take matters into your own hands. Remember when I showed you how to replace a broken iPhone screen? The tools and instructions used in that video came from iFixit, a crowd-sourced site that offers thousands of repair manuals and can also connect you to the tools needed to get the job done.
Guess what? All those great manuals featured on the iFixit site are all available in app form. From fixing a faulty Xbox to changing a flat tire on your bicycle, there are thousands of guides in iFixit’s database, so you’ll be able to complete almost any repair job on your own.
Each manual comes to you from someone just like you. Each manual is open source, meaning anyone can make edits, corrections and suggestions – kind of like Wikipedia.
If you have a special area of expertise you want to share, you can do that too by creating your own manual. All you need to do is create a free account. Watch the video below for more details:
