Compressing audio files with Audacity

Bill Myers Tip of the Week – May 24, 2014

It could be an audio podcast. Or maybe a speech from a workshop. Or maybe an audio recording of a church service.

Whatever it is, if you’re putting audio on the web, you’ll want to be sure the audio file is optimized for web playback.

That means the audio needs to be in the right file format, and the file itself needs to be compressed so it loads quickly and plays smoothly.

Fortunately, preparing an audio file for the web is pretty easy. It only takes a minute or two, and you don’t need to be a computer expert or purchase expensive software to do it.

I’ve created a short video showing the process, and you can view it on YouTube at http://youtu.be/zxBXYSwn5w0

If you watch the video and like it, be sure to use the share button on YouTube so others can benefit from it as well.
